Iran Official Says Trump Agreed to Unfreeze USD24B in Assets
Mohsen Rezaei, a senior adviser to Iran's supreme leader, made the remarks at a memorial ceremony in the southwestern city of Dezful. He claimed that Iran's recent conflict had elevated the country's international stature and that its deterrence capability had grown to the point where "Trump the gambler" now hesitates to confront Tehran at the negotiating table. He further argued that US policy is increasingly driven by Israeli influence, asserting that Washington had effectively become a colony of the "Zionist regime" through lobbying in its decision-making circles.
His comments followed Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi saying the same day that a proposed memorandum of understanding with the US would bring hostilities to a formal close across all fronts — including Lebanon — and open the path to negotiations on sanctions relief.
Separately, a senior Trump administration official said Washington anticipates signing a war-ending agreement with Iran "within the next few days," with the pact expected to include provisions for dismantling Iran's nuclear program.
