Iran, Russia Hold High-Level Talks Amid Diplomatic Deadlock

(MENAFN) Iran’s top diplomat Abbas Araghchi held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin as diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing confrontation involving the US and Israel remain at an impasse, according to reports.

Araghchi arrived in St. Petersburg early Monday as part of a broader regional tour aimed at coordinating positions with allied nations during the standoff with Washington and West Jerusalem. During his visit, he also met with senior Russian officials, including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and military intelligence chief Igor Kostyukov.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov подчеркнул the significance of the discussions, stating, “the importance of this conversation is difficult to overestimate in terms of how the situation around Iran and in the Middle East is developing.”

Negotiations between the US and Iran have reportedly stalled after US President Donald Trump canceled a planned trip by his envoys to Islamabad, remarking that the Iranians “can call” if they wish to resume talks.

Iranian officials have maintained that engaging in direct dialogue is not meaningful while US naval restrictions on Iranian ports remain in place and Israeli military actions in Lebanon continue.

According to reports, Moscow has continued to position itself as a central diplomatic partner for Tehran throughout the crisis. The discussions between Araghchi and Putin are expected to address recent ceasefire developments and explore coordinated strategies for managing the conflict.
